The Composition of Everyday Life. 2nd Ed. Boston: Thomson Wadsworth, 2007. 283.Step 1: Free write about your dream car (add space as needed): My dream car is a 2009 Ford Mustang Saleen Dark Horse edition 1 of 25 in the world limited edition Black and dark grey. The vehicles has a 302 small black V-8, super charged, running 8 pounds of boost. It is rated at 620 horse power, 600 ft lbs of torque. It can pull away from the line, and hit 0-60 in about 3.8 seconds. The car get a respectable 15 city MPG, and 25 highway MPG. It comes standard with a 6 speed transmission short throw shifter, heavy duty suspension, big brake kit slotted, and drilled 15” rotors, with large 20” wheels package, it has push button start, with navigation touch screen, and heated leather seats along with a 200 mph odometer, and a very cool gauge cluster. Safety features are engine immobilizer, security steering wheel detaches, low-jack equipped, and remote sensors warn you when someone gets too close to your vehicle. It is also equipped with ABS standard brakes, 6 air bags, and anti roll cage built into the car. It was professionally tested before it was certified to be sold on race tracks in the U.S. You would think a car with this much power in technology was in the hundred thousand dollar range. Not so it comes with everything listed for a very respectable $85,875Step 2: Provide Support for your claim/requestAlongside these forms of support, give details about what you could include to support your argument that you should get a car for your birthday. This can be any car you want. Add space as needed. Look up data on the Internet as needed.Examples: I should be allowed to get this car for my birthday because it would allow me to travel comfortably because I am a little tall there are very few cars especially foreign cars that I can fit in to. So this car would allow me to get from place to place without having to try and cram in to a small tiny car. Another thing is that because it is such a nice car and a collector car that I wouldn’t want to drive it in bad weather conditions this would in turn force me to take public forms of transportation like subway, and buses. Also for its power and performance it gets relatively good gas mileage 18 city 25 highway. Also one very unique safety feature that this car has is a role cage built into the frame of car. This feature coupled with the safety belts, and the 6 air bags it makes it 45 % more likely to survive a collision from any angle. Allusions: This car in the past has been the number 1 selling car in America, and has been a leader in it class since 1965. It has been in dozens of movies from gone in 60 seconds to, The Fast and the Furious, and many more.
Personal testimonies: I have a friend who has a 1971 mustang GT that his father gave him and it starts up every day without problems. The car I’m told corners like a dream unlike the old 1971 mustang it really goes into the turn like a hot knife going right through butter. Also the interior is very basic as it should be for a performance car just the essentials necessary for good driving.
Scenarios: The car allows you park any where you want, because who would ticket piece of American muscle like this one. Also because of its safety features this car is impossible to steal, or to hot wire.
Statistics: Speaking from a gear head perspective this car being only 1 of 25 built in 2008 makes it a prized possession. Its value will only continue to rise as the years go by. Because of its tremendous rarity driving it would have to be restricted as to not damage its value basically it would only be driven in cases where you need to drive it emergencies. (Edmonds.com) quoted the vehicle a best buy for 2008 performance vehicles, and safety features. In U.S. new scores it ranked a 9.0 out of 10 for one of the best muscle cars in America it also sustains a lot of its value. It was also ranked one of the mist affordable muscle cars in America by (caranddriver.com). a poll taken by Edmunds.com also found that people who drive muscle cars preferred the performance of the mustang 4to1 over similar imports with close to the same power, and performance.
Facts (Use facts to support your argument, not merely facts about the car itself. How do these facts help you convince your parents or guardians to get you the car you want? For example, how did the car do in crash-test ratings? Think about facts that would best convince your parents to get you this car rather than the used car from the Ford dealership): This mustang is extremely good buy its value will do nothing but go up so losing money on this car inst a reality. It also scored 5 out of 5 on its side, and front crash rating. It is not only one of the few cars that I can fit into but it is also equipped with a roll cage, huge ABS 15 inch brakes, and stability control. That alone with its amazing handling, suspension, its 8 air bags, and you have a safety net of features at your disposal. Step 3: Make appeals: Considering your audience is vital to making an effective argument. Although I ask you to compare a male and a female parent or guardian, if these criteria don’t apply to you, choose two people who are different from one another. Respond to the following:Question: What would you say to your mother or female guardian to ensure that you get the car?Appeal to her logic (appeal to her intellect and sense of reason): I would say “mom this car unlike the other cars out there will actually fit me that with its amazing safety features, and respectable gas mileage makes this car a good buy.” It is also a Edmunds award winner for safety, and a car and driver best buy. Appeal to her emotions (use pathos to get what you want): “Mom you would want your son to be safe while driving to school with all those crazy drivers on 95 wouldn’t you.” This car would keep your baby boy safe from the crazy drivers as well as get good gas mileage to make sure I get were I’m going not wasting a lot of money. Appeal to her character (appeal to a quality of your mother or female guardian): “mom I know that you think muscle cars aren’t safe, but this car has won multiple car and driver awards for safety. Appeal to need (how this can help you, help your mother, help the family, etc.): by having this car I wouldn’t have to depend on you mom, for rides to practice, to go see my friends, or most important to go on dates. I would also not need to depend on you for rides to school in the morning. Appeal to values (relate your request to your mother or female guardian’s values for right/wrong, success, self-discipline, maturity, etc.): By getting this car it really shows how mature I’ am trying to think of safety first, and choosing a car that puts safety first just like you do mom. Question: What would you say to your father or male guardian to get the car you want?Appeal to his logic (appeal to his sense of reason): dad this car is a classic plain and simple you know you would love to drive it too. Plus you can’t beat its safety features or the performance matched with the fuel economy of 18city 25 highway mileage. It is also a consumer reports best buy. Along with the fact the considering its rarity its value will only increase. Appeal to his emotions (use pathos to get what you want): dad don’t you remember when you were a kid didn’t you have that one dream car that you always wanted to get and work on it with your dad. Well this is the car I want to get and work on you with it could be our project car something that we can always share together. Appeal to his character (appeal to a quality of your father or male guardian): Dad this car really represents my character it is a strong car that will not only fit me. But it will also protect me it was voted car and driver bet buy for 2008. And Edmunds gave it a 5 star front and side crash test award. Appeal to need (how this can help you, help your father or male guardian, help the family, etc.): dad I need a car to be able to get to school, work, and practice. Not to mention I need a car to take my girlfriend out on dates around town, without having to rely on you, and mom to borrow your cars when I need them. Appeal to values (relate your request to your father or male guardian’s values for right/wrong, success, self-discipline, maturity etc.): Dad this car represents a piece of American tradition; I know that this car might seem like a big investment. But it is a big investment you get so much more out of it though.
    1. It’s a collector car
    2. It will only go up in value
    3. Good gad mileage for its power 18 city 25 highway
    4. Safety feature are second to none (maybe a tank is safer)
    5. I fit in the car after all I am 7’1
    6. I need a car to get to school Step 3: Counterargumentwhat would be your mother or female guardian’s STRONGEST counterarguments against getting you a car? This car has way too much power for a teenager; you don’t need something with over 600 horse power that’s way too much. If you want a mustang you can get one with less power and for much cheaper than $85,000 dollars. Finally if you want you can add on some of those great safety features after you buy the car for much cheaper as well. And you need to look at a car that gets BETTER gas mileage. What would be your father or male guardian’s STRONGEST counterarguments? Why do you want a car son with so much power do you think that me, and your mom are crazy enough to let our teenage son purchase and own a 600 horse power car I don’t care what other features it has you already know my answer is NO!!! Step 4: Concessions (“Okay, I agree, you’re right to be concerned about…) or Finding Common Ground (“I think all of us agree that…”)
This car might have a little too much power but I’m sure we can find some common ground that these cars pros out way its cons. if you say your parents/guardians are just wrong and you are right, you probably won’t get the car.In what ways could you address your parents’/guardians’ counterarguments and concerns, but still convince them of the overall benefits of getting you a car?In the form of a letter, write what you would say to your parents/guardians. Address their concerns by making concessions or finding common ground, and then convert their concerns into an even stronger claim that they should get you a car.

    Dear Mom Dad

I understand why you would be concerned with your son getting such an expensive car. But the features alone if we were to purchase a everyday mustang than add them on would exceed the price of the car already equipped the role cage alone on the car would coast us about $15,000 to have installed in the car, the upgraded suspension another $20,000 just those feature would push the price of a basic “Stang” to about $67,000, and that’s not even including all the other safety features, like airbags, racing harness, or sway bars, including traction control. These features truly are a great investment because you truly can’t put a price on my safety can you. Also the value of this car you have to think of it like investing in a home or a piece of real-estate it will only grow in value. For example if you had bought a 1969 GT500 428 cobra jet Mustang and sold it today you would probably make around $800,000 dollars, when the car only coast about $7,500, if you only had the foresight to purchase one then. Ok lets recap shall we reasons I should get the car
    1. The value of the car will never go down as long as we keep it maintained and in good condition
    2. The safety features can’t be beat for the initial price
    3. If desired I will take a driver course to prove that I can handle the car to put your minds at ease about the power
    4. Edmonds award winner for safety
    5. Car and driver best buy
    6. One of the most important I fit in the car and this model “Stang” has more head room, and leg room than an ordinary Mustang because of its larger engine, and wheel base.
    7. This car is just plain SEXY
    8. Also your supporting the American economy by not buying an import
    9. I don’t want to put the burden on you Mom, and Dad to drive me around everywhere school, practice exec…
